菩萨是菩提萨埵（Bobhisattva） 的简称，意为「觉有情」，是指发愿以智慧上求无上佛道，以慈悲下化众生，勤修诸波罗密，未来成就佛果的修行圣者。在早期佛教中，菩萨本来称成佛以前的悉达 多太子或累劫转世修菩萨道的释尊。而大乘佛教则把凡是发心「上求菩提、下化众生」者，皆称之为菩萨。
概述
