属松科，雪松属。常绿乔木，树冠尖塔形，大枝平展，小枝略下垂。叶针形，质硬，灰绿色或银灰色，在长枝上散生，短枝上簇生。10-11月开花。球果翌年成熟，椭圆状卵形，熟时赤褐色。雪松原产喜马拉雅山，中国西藏南部及印度、阿富汗均有分布。适生于中国年雨量600-1000毫米的温带和亚热带地区，长江中下游各地栽培生长良好。雪松喜光，亦有一定耐荫能力，喜凉爽湿润气候，对温度变化的适应力相当强，适生于土层深厚，排水良好的中性或微酸性土壤，忌水湿，土中积水往往生长不良，甚至死亡。雪松高可达80米，高大挺拔，侧枝平伸，枝叶浓密，枝下高极低，树冠呈坐地尖塔形，终年苍翠，姿态雄美。它与南洋杉、日本金松同为世界著名的三大观赏树种，雪松还有“树木皇后”之美称。
